FAQs

Here is a list of our most frequently asked questions – if you can’t find the answer you require then please feel free to contact us

Where can I find more information about my library membership?
For information about how to join and member privileges, including how to renew items and place reservations, see: www.base-library.nhs.uk

Is my library membership number the same as my Athens username and password?
No, the services are provided by two different providers.  Your library membership number can be found on the back of your Base Library card that you were given when you joined.  If you have lost this, you can replace it at your nearest library.

An OpenAthens username and password (also known as Athens) will grant you access to e-resources such as e-journals, e-books and e-databases.  You can self-register for an OpenAthens username and password.

What computer facilities do you have?
Both libraries have access to trust PC’s as well as having some open access PC’s that don’t require a trust password.

Do you hold any fiction titles?
Yes, both libraries hold a growing number of fiction titles – some mood boosting and others related to a mental health theme.  All staff and students on placement are able to borrow these items.

I’m having trouble accessing e-resources with my OpenAthens account, who should I contact?
If you contact the staff at either library, they will be able to help you reset your password or assist with access – please note, although items show as being accessible via OpenAthens, not all resources are purchased by BSMHFT library services and so may not be available to our users.

How can I access the BNF?
A print copy of the BNF is available for reference at each library.

You can also view the BNF online at: https://bnf.nice.org.uk/– there is no need for a username and password if you are accessing the content via a trust PC connected to N3.

You can also download the app from either Android or Apple stores.  If you visit this page on your mobile device: https://www.nice.org.uk/about/what-we-do/evidence-services/british-national-formulary you can download direct from the site.  You will be asked to login with your Athens username and password at first visit but if you don’t have one of these, you can self register.
