Information Databases

Whether you are looking for a quick guide or policy from NICE to doing a more sophisticated search of the literature, you have access to all of the databases listed below.

For a basic search of our specific library stock or full text journal collection, you can start with the Library OneSearch discovery tool. The Trip Pro database will allow easy searching of the broader healthcare evidence.

Database Description
NHS Knowledge and Library Hub The NHS Knowledge and Library Hub connects healthcare staff and learners to high quality, NHS-funded, knowledge and evidence resources in one place, using a single search.
TRIP Pro Database This is a clinical search engine designed to allow users to quickly and easily find and use high-quality research evidence such as NICE guidelines and systematic reviews.

For the more experienced searcher, you have a choice of databases from which to build your search and compare results – an OpenAthens username is required to access most of these.

Database Description
Healthcare Databases This is a collection of 9 healthcare databases such as Medline, CINAHL and Embase. They are now provided via the companies Ebsco and Ovid. There have recently been changes to the databases so please see the attached document for further details.QuickGuide_Databases
Cochrane Library This is a leading resource of systematic reviews in healthcare.  You can search across 7 databases to find different types of high quality, independent evidence to inform decision making.  Free to access, no username or password required.
Emerald Insight A useful database if you are searching for articles from the field of Business, Management, Finance, Computing or Social Sciences.
Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection This database offers full text articles from over 400 journals from the psychology and counselling sector.
PEDro This is a free resource offering access to over 48,000 trials, reviews and guidelines evaluating Physiotherapy interventions.
Pubmed Search using the filtered link which allows you to access full-text content purchased by BSMHFT Library Services
Social Care Online  This is the largest database of information and research on all aspects of social work and social care.  It is free to search but in order to save your searches and access full content, you will need to register for a SCIE account.  Further details are on the homepage.
